As a kind of continuation of my last article, “The Magic of Arcane,” in which I talked about how the Netflix
show “Arcane” was one of a kind, I wanted to write a whole other story talking solely about the music.
Good music can make or break any TV show or movie. You could have a stellar movie and have a kind of meh soundtrack, and then it completely gets rid of everything good about the movie; at least that’s the way it is with me. Thankfully, Arcane’s soundtrack doesn’t do that.
Right away we get an epic theme song that gives you chills in the first couple seconds. With the slow and almost melodic heartbeat-esque music and the quiet lyrics, you get the sense that you’re being shown something that should be kept secret, along with a myriad of statues seemingly telling of an ancient legend lost to the mists of time. Then, out of nowhere, you get bombarded with a beat drop that gives you a jumpscare as you see more statues that start to crumble as if they were shot or beaten with a
sledgehammer to match the epicness and fierceness of this new musical direction.
Then, at the end, the epic music ends as soon as it begins as the title card is sprawled across the screen with a golden light behind it as chunks of stone, assumingly from the destroyed statues, float around the title card as if stuck in time. And that’s just the theme song; imagine the rest of the show!
