The Montage Wins 27 Awards at MCMA

STLCC-Meramec’s The Montage staff receives 27 honors from the Missouri College Media Association 

KIRKWOOD — The Montage, St. Louis Community College – Meramec’s student newspaper, was recently recognized with 27 awards by the Missouri College Media Association (MCMA). 

The organization announced award winners of its annual contest at the conclusion of this year’s conference on April 8, 2024, at the Crown Center in Kansas City, MO. The Montage received a 1st place win for the Back-to-School Magazine, and in categories including Editorial Page, Sports Writing, Page One Design, Feature Page and Information Graphics. 

The Montage staff competed against several other two-year school newspapers from across the state including newspapers from the STLCC-Forest Park campus. Entries in the competition were judged for general excellence by members of the Missouri Press Association and professional journalists. 

Individual and staff awards received by The Montage staff included 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place wins for in-depth news reporting, investigative reporting, Photo Page, video and news writing. Several honorable mentions were also awarded to staff members. 

The Montage has consistently won awards for excellence in student journalism at the state and national levels for many years. Recent awards include national recognition from the Society of Professional Journalists with a Mark of Excellence Award and a Pacemaker award from the Associated Collegiate Press. In addition to this year’s recognition from the Missouri Press Association, The Montage was named the MCMA Best Overall Newspaper in the two-year school division for 2020-2021, 2019-2020, 2018-2019, 2017-2018, 2012-2013, 2011-2012, 2010-2011, 2006 – 2007, 2005 – 2006, 2004 – 2005, 2003-2004, 2001-2002, 2000-2001 and 1999-2000; MCMA’s annual convention Sweepstakes Award in 2019, 2018, 2014 and 2015, 2013, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004 and 2002 for most awards won by a single school in one year.
