The puzzle pieces have been put in place for the new athletic teams representing all of STLCC next season.  New head coaches, a team name and new team colors have all been announced.

For new coaching staffs, the STLCC-Meramec campus will retain baseball, softball and women’s soccer.  The STLCC-Forest Park campus will be home to both men’s and women’s basketball programs and STLCC-Florissant Valley will keep the men’s soccer program and women’s volleyball.

Coaches

  • Baseball—Tony Dattoli
  • Men’s Basketball—Randy Albrecht
  • Women’s Basketball—Shelly Ethridge
  • Men’s Soccer—Mike Mayberry
  • Women’s Soccer—Juergen Huettner
  • Softball—Wayne Bryan
  • Volleyball—Johnna Kinney

Although both Randy Albrecht and Shelly Ethridge coached their respective basketball programs at Meramec, this previous season, they will move their basketball teams to another home court at Forest Park.  In turn, women’s soccer coach, Juergen Huettner and softball coach, Wayne Bryan, will be forced to move their programs to Meramec.

Huettner has coached women’s soccer at Forest Park since 2009.  That same year, he led his team to the most wins ever in its program’s history.  This past season, Huettner’s Highlanders went 10-11-1 and 1-2-0 in conference play.

Bryan coached softball at Florissant Valley this past season and led his team to a 2-28 record.  The Fury’s record against teams within their conference was 1-17.  In the first game of this year’s Region XVI Tournament, the Fury lost to the Magic, 9-2.

Baseball’s head coach, Tony Dattoli, men’s soccer head coach, Mike Mayberry and volleyball’s head coach, Johnna Kinney will keep their respective programs at the same campuses.

There will also no longer be team colors of green and gold at Meramec, red and black at Forest Park or blue and white at Florissant Valley.  With the consolidation in sports, beginning July 1, new team colors were voted on through online voting that took place between April 11 and April 22.  A new name was voted on as well.

The new team colors, navy and silver, was one of 36 colors schemes suggested by faculty, staff and students.  Other color schemes that made the finalist group were black and silver, burgundy and silver, purple and gold and brown and gold.

The new team name, Archers, was one of 92 team names suggested by faculty, staff and students. Other names, such as Spirits, River Cats and Express were also possibilities.  The new Archers logo will be released later this summer.

All STLCC Archers will still compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Midwest Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC).
