Shannon Philpott

Shannon Philpott is a member of the journalism and English faculty at STLCC-Meramec. She has also served as the faculty adviser of The Montage since 2007. Philpott formerly taught English composition at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville after obtaining a bachelor's degree in print journalism and a Master's degree in English from SIUE.
 
As a college media adviser, Philpott adheres to the College Media Advisers' code of ethics, promoting that student media should be 100 percent student-run and student-controlled. She supports the work of her students by providing resources and training to assist them in producing balanced and accurate coverage of campus news.
 
Prior to teaching, Philpott worked as a reporter and eventually as associate editor at The Messenger, the newspaper of the Belleville, Ill. diocese. She has 10+ years experience as a freelance writer and editor for local and national magazines as well.
