George Wasson, vice president of academic affairs was appointed acting president since Dr. Paul Pai resigned this spring. Wasson said he has been working with Campbell for the last six to eight weeks. “I’m very impressed with her ability to analyze issues,” Wasson said. “I believe she will be a very good asset to the Meramec campus.”
Wasson said it’s common to have an acting or interim president during the presidential search process. Both he and Chancellor Zelema Harris said they believe that Campbell will bring a level of stability to Meramec. Wasson said he knew at some point this change would come and that he is very satisfied with the decision the board made.
“I’ve been handling acting president responsibilities and my previous responsibilities as VP of Academic Affairs since all this started,” said Wasson.
Campbell previously served as interim president at STLCC-Forest Park. “Campbell was able to work with faculty /staff and the leadership team to help resolve several issues over the last year at Forest Park and I believe she can and will do the same for Meramec,” said Harris.
According to Harris, Campbell enjoys assisting and strategically implementing ideas to better the educational needs of students and faculty/staff. “We are fortunate that she is taking on this temporary position and look forward to Campbell continuing her part with STLCC’s educational needs,” said Harris.
Wasson will remain as acting president until Campbell assumes the position in August," Harris said. “George Wasson has done a great job in his efforts maintaining his responsibilities and those of president and I have nothing but confidence that his efforts will continue.”
Campbell said she looks forward to becoming part of the Meramec culture and hopes to learn, understand, and in turn do what’s best for the students and the campus as a whole. “I’m excited at the prospect and the challenge to be part of the healing process that Meramec needs,” Campbell said following the board meeting.
