Top reasons why marijuana is not harmful

There are those of us who choose to stay away from what society labels as "drugs."

While it's valid that many drugs have negative effects, there is one "drug" that offers credible positive aspects, but still remains illegal: marijuana.

How many times have we heard the exhausting "legalize marijuana" statements? Rather than rant and rave on why pot should be legal, I want to take a less abrasive approach.

Here are the top reasons why marijuana has more to offer than what people think. This might change your idea of weed being just another illegal drug and help to see it more for all it offers.

Take the Pain Away

By now, we're all aware of people in the medical field wanting to legalize weed for its natural pain relief.

They couldn't be more right. Whether it's a migraine, or menstrual cramps, weed can offer temporary relief Some people might ask, "Why not just take pain medication?" Pain medications take much longer to kick in than pot. For those of you who prefer instant gratification, marijuana can be a faster solution.

Artistic Genius

Some of the greatest musicians and artists are known for their drug use, in particular, weed. Jimi Hendrix, considered one of the greatest guitarists who ever lived, was notorious for his incessant drug use.

While I don't condone the other substances he used which later resulted in his death (God rest his soul); he did love his pot. Other influential artists including Led Zeppelin, 311, Sublime and even the famous pop-culture artist Andy Warhol have all smoked marijuana shamelessly. And I don't think anyone can question their masterful works, whether it's a song or a Technicolor print.

Weed provokes the creative juices in our minds and introduces us to thoughts and ideas we didn't even know we had.

I can only guess that these men of genius used weed as a tool to stir up their creative flow.

Loosen Up a Little

The general stereotype of "pot heads" is being laid-back, relaxed and happy. These are one of those rare times when the stereotype fits.

For the overly-anal people of the world, pot is the drug for you. After smoking weed, life will seem simpler. Relaxation sets in and endorphins increase; a sense of euphoria, if you will, is experienced.

So let's recap. Weed relieves pain, induces creative and deep thoughts, and takes the edge off the realities of life, even if only temporary. So, in the words of musician Ben Harper, "Let us burn one/ from end to end/ and pass it over to me, my friend."
